On our first Sunday here in June 2012, we attended New Life Church and have been here ever since. At that time, we had no idea that a few years later I would join the staff and re-engage in pastoral ministry. Next month, I’ll celebrate my two year anniversary.

Today, my pastor, Brady Boyd, highlighted in his blog reasons why he loves our church and encouraged us to share ours. Here are my ten reasons why #ILoveMyChurch.

I love that our church is serious about making an impact in our city — Mary’s Home and Dream Centers of Colorado Springs are a high priority as we care for the at risk and marginalized.

I love how our church is creating a place for people to easily connect in God’s family through Section Communities. When I first was a part of New Life, I continually heard how difficult it was to get connected. Now I hear how easy it is — even in a very large church.

I love that our church is unashamedly imperfect yet confidently healthy. When I first came to New Life, our family was tired, weary, and hurting. New Life has been a place of health and freedom for us. We have learned that while we work hard, we also rest well.

I love working with the most amazing team on the New Life campus. Our team oversees all areas related to Sections, Groups, and Congregational Care and working with Pastors Christine, Lance, and Damon along with Kortnee, Becca, and Rico is one my greatest joys. These people love our church family well.

I love that our church is a place for young people to grow in their gifting. As a dad of a growing and emerging worship leader, I am so grateful for all the pastors and worship leaders that have and continue to pour into my daughter. You set a great example for our young leaders.

I love that our church values freely give away what we have. Just today, I spent most of the morning with a pastor in Lincoln, Nebraska who wants to start Section Communities in their church. Everyone that we encountered throughout the day (both staff and volunteers) were so happy to share of their time and experience. We are not only generous with our resources but also our time and experience.

I love that we are continually open to the voice of the Holy Spirit as He redirects our steps. While there are pillars to our ministry, we are continually listening for where the “cloud by day and the fire by night” might be leading us into the future.

I love that we aren’t afraid to color outside the conservative Christian political lines. As Pastor Brady said today, “My Bible trumps my politics!” There was an article in today’s Gazette that highlights this.

I love that we have a team approach to leadership. Our pastor is one of the most secure leaders I know. He isn’t threatened by strong leadership. He creates an atmosphere where emerging leaders can grow and thrive.

Finally, for one of my favorites . . . I love that our church sits on the front range of the Rockies. Walking out of the doors on any given day, we’re greeted by beautiful views of God’s amazing creation.

I am so grateful for this church that I call family. We are better together. Share why you love your church and share on social media using the hashtag #ILoveMyChurch.

This month my family and I are celebrating five years since we made the decision to leave our Indiana home and relocate to Colorado Springs.
