I’ve heard it what seems like a hundred times \u2014 “we already do that.” In an age of leadership information overload, there is no lack of information on leadership. Simply subscribe to a dozen ‘leadership gurus,’ and your Twitter feed will be filled with today’s list of “how to’s” and “ten steps to this or that.” I love it. I read them everyday and am constantly learning about\u00a0leadership. But I never learn anything by saying “I already do that.”<\/p>\n
We’ve all done it. I do it. We overlook all the things that we’re not doing (and probably should be) to find the one thing that makes us feel good about ourselves and our leadership. The lesson isn’t found in finding “what you already do.” The lesson is found in what you haven’t yet done and should be. Leaders, I encourage you to look at what you’re not doing and should be.
